String Quartet
4 movements
Giuseppe Verdi · 1873 · E minor · 797 bars · 967 chords analysed
Verdi's only chamber work, written in a Naples hotel while waiting for a soprano to recover from illness.
A string quartet — two violins, viola and cello — is often called a conversation between four friends. With only four voices, every chord is easy to see and hear, which makes quartets a wonderful way to study harmony.
