String Quartet in F major
4 movements
Maurice Ravel · 1902–03 · B♭ major · 808 bars · 1303 chords analysed
Ravel's only quartet, dedicated to his teacher Fauré and modelled on Debussy's.
A string quartet — two violins, viola and cello — is often called a conversation between four friends. With only four voices, every chord is easy to see and hear, which makes quartets a wonderful way to study harmony.
