Symphony No. 5 in B♭ major, WAB 105
III. Scherzo. Molto vivace (schnell)
Anton Bruckner · 1875–78 · D minor · 382 bars · 460 chords analysed
Bruckner's Fifth is a cathedral of a symphony: it begins with a slow pizzicato introduction and ends with a huge double fugue that brings back the first movement's themes. Bruckner, a devout organist, never heard it played by an orchestra.
