Juan Crisóstomo Arriaga · 1823 · A major · 770 bars · 729 chords analysed
Arriaga wrote his three quartets at 17; he died in Paris at 19, ten days before his twentieth birthday.
A string quartet — two violins, viola and cello — is often called a conversation between four friends. With only four voices, every chord is easy to see and hear, which makes quartets a wonderful way to study harmony.
